“Welcome ever smiles.
And farewell goes out sighing”

William Shakespeare

Welcome to "La Teranga"

If you’re looking for a holiday where you can truly get up close and personal with nature but never be far from adorably typical French villages complete with their markets, restaurants and all that goes on there, you’re in the right place. Choosing to holiday at “La Teranga”, means you can share our 16 delightful hectares of rolling Gascon countryside; you’ve got a 12 metre, Romanesque sunken pool in the garden; you can take leisurely walks to the neighbouring chateaux or be a bit more energetic, taking to the hills on horse-back – the choice is yours.

Take over our gîte, Lafféranderie, occupying the ground floor of our detached 19th century stone barn which has been thoughtfully and tastefully restored to provide perfect holiday accommodation and has every home-from-home comfort you could ask for.

If, on the other hand, you want to be waited on hand-and-foot (or if you’re a big group looking for a space to spill over to from the gîte), choose our chambre d’hôte option. Situated in our 1819 farmhouse, our chambre d’hôte rooms have comfort at their core, with 2 ensuite rooms and one with its own bathroom right next door, you’ll immediately feel at home.

Surrounding the 1819 La Teranga is more than 16 hectares of meadow, woodland and heath. Our nearest neighbours, Chateau Perron and Chateau Montus are both well-known producers of the delightful Madiran and Pacherenc wines. In our wood we are lucky enough to have badger, rabbit and wild pig and our small lake attracts coypou and last year was host to a nesting heron. Come nightfall, join us to enjoy stargazing and the spectacle of owls and pipistrelle bats swooping between our various outbuildings. At all times of year, deer cross the land as if they owned it and come particularly close to the house in the winter months in search of food.

Taking a well-earned break here you’ll get a taste of real French life and you’ll live like a local during your holiday. Choose this as your holiday and either ditch the car for an authentic rural French break or use this as a base to really explore the south west. The Pyrenees, the Spanish Basque country, Biarritz, Pau and the Atlantic coast make lovely days out.

With a wide choice of flights, you’re sure to find something to suit your dates, location and budget. Pau international airport (with flights from Stansted and Bristol) is only an hour away; Bordeaux, Toulouse and Biarritz (with any number of UK flight options) are just over 2 hours away and if you fancy coming in to Bergerac (with flights from Stansted, Bristol, Guernsey, Jersey and Southampton) that’s three and a quarter hours away. Alternatively, you could take the ferry option and see a bit of France as you travel.

Holiday at “La Teranga” and you’ll find a really warm Gascon welcome from us and the locals alike.
